How to make effective, low-cost video ads
No production budget, no problem.
Hello! Welcome to your weekly dose of INSPO ✨
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt from my time in advertising and brand building it’s that constraints make you interesting.
When you can’t outspend your competitors you’re forced to out think them, and that’s where some of the best ideas come from.
So if you’ve not got £££ of production budget for flashy video ads, don’t worry. This email is all about making the easiest video ads you’ll ever make.
Ad breakdown
This Fyxer ad is one of the simplest ads out there.
It feels native, it’s clear and it’s probably really effective.
Plus, it costs nothing to shoot and barely takes any time to edit together.
But if you want to do this for your brand, there is one small catch…
You’ve got to get the copy right.
It doesn’t matter if you make a 5 second long ad natively in Instagram or a 5 minute long ad with a £80k budget, if the message doesn’t resonate it won’t work.
So here’s why I think this ad works:
👉 Starting with PSA feels native and relatable, it gives the ad a ‘did you know’ vibe instead of a ‘buy this’ vibe
👉 The first sentence immediately tells you whether it’s something you’re interested in or not, grabs the attention of the right people
👉 It goes on to tell you what it does, how that benefits you and how its different to other AI executive assistants
👉 It then goes on to handle your objections ‘is it annoying to connect to my email server?’ ‘will it actually sound like me?’
👉 The video also helps with the targeting, it’s a short clip of someone who would use Fyxer in the environment they’d use it
👉 The music ads to the feeling Fyxer wants you to feel when you use their tool
It’s simple but it’s most definitely been thought through.
How to use this thinking for your brand
If you want to create an ad like this, make sure you spend your time getting the copy right. Create different versions for different audience groups too.
🪩 Write the copy for your ad following this framework:
What the product is (context) and what it does for you (value proposition)
Give more detail (features)
Answer the ‘so what’ question (benefit)
Add more detail (handle objections)
Call to action
🪩 Film a short clip of someone who represents your target audience using your product or doing an activity your product is used for
🪩 Put the text over the top in a native style font
🪩 Add audio that portrays the emotion you want viewers to feel
Give this a go and let me know how you get on 💪🏼
