Get real
You should try this...
Hello! Welcome to your weekly dose of INSPO ✨
There’s no avoiding the excessive number of ‘agencies will be redundant’ and ‘creatives won’t have jobs anymore’ posts on LinkedIn this week, so I thought I’d go in the other direction with some real inspiration.
Ad breakdown
Now that being a UGC creator has become a full time job it’s often quite challenging to know what’s real and what’s not.
User doesn’t mean user anymore and that’s only going to become more obvious.
So when everyone’s using creators that have never even heard of the product before they promote it, why not go back to real UGC?
This ad for 47 Skin stopped me scrolling because of the format but kept me engaged because it felt so genuine.
Yes, I appreciate that the format is a mock up and the video has been edited together, but that doesn’t stop the conversation from feeling real and authentic.
Additionally, the hook isn’t trying to grab your attention in clickbait style, instead it feels like you’ve just stumbled into a conversation half way through.
I think this works really well but there is one thing I’d do differently…
The founder’s reactions are quite stiff, I think if it was all shot in real time without any editing his reactions to parts of her story would be more enthusiastic.
That said, it’s not easy to cram a long conversation into a short ad so I think they’ve balanced it well.
I’m keen to give this a go with some of the brands I’m working with, what about you?
How to make this format work for your brand
This needs customer or maybe even employee input, so put a plan together and figure out how to find and engage the right people for the job. Here’s how to start…
🪩 Reach out to customers who started using your product recently so that they remember life before it, but have used it for long enough to have seen results.
🪩 Offer them something in return for recording a video call with you that will be used in paid ads.
🪩 Arrange the video call and ask one question at a time, leave space around each conversation so you can edit afterwards.
Give this a go and let me know how you get on 💪🏼
Happy ad making,
